Job Summary:

  • Using industry level knitwear teach the fashion design process from visual research, idea sketching, color, yarn and design development to technical flat sketching and materials sourcing to creating line plans, draping, and knowledge of construction of full garments.
  • Teach swatch knitting that demonstrate an understanding of a variety of single-bed knitting techniques SK 280 and double-bed SK 155 Silver Reed machines
  • Be able to teach hand knit, felting, brushing, basic macrame, beading techniques and crochet skills.
  • Teach students knitwear’s place in the fashion industry and the foundational importance of material selection, color, stitch, and garment construction.

Textiles

The Textile Design degree program gives you the skills necessary to fully realize your creative visions. From fabric burnout to photographic screen printing to computer-assisted print designs and knitwear, you’ll develop your drawing and color skills in coursework that combines excellence in design, artistic vision, and innovative technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of teaching each assigned class section(s), including, but not limited to: preparing for class, implementing published syllabus and course outline, communicating with students; evaluating and grading student performance and assignment submissions; maintaining current and accurate records that require online entry of student data, including attendance, progress grades, midterm grades and final grades; holding synchronous (onsite and virtual) classes in accordance with the published day, time and modality; beginning and ending synchronous classes on time according to published start and end times.
  • Have a thorough understanding of all course content including assignments, discussion topics and Course Learning Outcomes. Demonstrate mastery of the course material and facilitate learning and skills acquisition in course(s) using teaching strategies appropriate to the course modality (onsite/online/virtual).
  • Engage every section of assigned online classes at least once each day, 6 days a week (including Saturday). Review all posts, comments, and mailbox messages during each active module and respond to all student questions within 1 business day. Leave public evidence of online presence including but not limited to a new post, comment; public critique 6 days a week.
  • Actively contributes to and guides class conversations to encourage student engagement and development. Provides constructive, clear and detailed feedback on submitted student work that includes, what was done correctly, areas for improvement and why, and the how to make improvements.
  • Post on the first day of class for every section of assigned online class and include in the Instructor Profile the “Check-in” times when students can expect questions to be answered for the above mentioned 6 days. Ensure professional communication is provided to students throughout the semester.
  • Assess students’ achievement of the course learning outcomes by adhering to the official course grading breakdown. Offer constructive feedback in a professional manner to assist students in their skill development.
  • Submit all Progress, Midterm and Final grades by published deadlines.
  • Post critiques and grades for online course assignments in Brightspace within 3 business days of the close of each module period; 2 business days of the close of the module during the summer semester. Provide feedback and grades for onsite/virtual course assignments by the following class session.
  • Instructors teaching synchronous class sections (onsite/virtual) must submit student attendance rosters no later than 11:59 p.m. each day class(es) are scheduled.
  • Communicate weekly to students who are absent from class within the same day of the of the missed class for synchronous classes or within 24 hours after the close of the module for online classes. Instructors must notify the appropriate support department to ensure that absent students are connected with needed resources. Instructors should attempt to contact and offer support to students who have failed to submit required work on time and communicate concerns to the appropriate department as needed.
  • Follow University requirements for scheduling and recording virtual Zoom class meetings and post links to recordings in Brightspace for student access.
  • Perform additional instructor duties as assigned by the Department Director. These additional duties may include, but not be limited to, workshops, portfolio reviews, and other instructional work.
  • Communicate with department director, faculty lead, and where appropriate, online build team, about ways in which student learning can be Improved in assigned class(es).
  • Maintain guidelines set by the Academy of Art University. Ensure compliance with state laws and all standards of the Academy's various accrediting agencies.
  • Remain current in your knowledge of industry advancements and maintain professional interactions in your field.

Compensation:

$43.00 to $90.00 per hour for teaching and $18.67 per hour for all other non-teaching work.
