Customer/Family Care- Funeral Assistant

HIRING IMMEDIATETLY

Position is Full-Time

Tuesday-Saturday from 8:00-4:30 at Calvary Cemetery in San Jose

Funeral Assistants provide support to the Family Service Directors (Funeral Directors) before, during, and after Funeral Services. As part of working with the Diocese of San Jose, they are committed to upholding the mission of serving people with compassion and respect. They ensure the highest standards for family service by greeting arriving families, being attentive to their needs during the service, and ensuring their safety. Additionally, they work to provide families with a faith-filled environment, offering comfort and support during difficult times. Funeral Assistants are responsible for maintaining the service environment, which includes setting up services and supplies, placing signage to guide families, keeping gathering areas and other family-facing spaces clean, and performing other tasks as directed by the Family Service Director. The job also involves administrative duties and physical tasks such as lifting items to set up a room.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required
• 1-2 years customer service including direct contact with the public

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

• Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
• Must be able to clear a background/fingerprint verification.
• Knowledge of modern office methods and technologies.
• Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable viewing deceased persons.
• Able to work a flexible schedule.
• Evening and some weekend work required
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred
• Must be at least 21 years of age

Physical Requirements

• Physical agility is required: sitting, standing, walking, bending legs and spine.
• Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds.
